Who are we?

ARLC (Asociaţia Română de Lingvistică Computaţională) is a nonprofit scientific association, founded in April 2017, and dedicated to the support of research advancements in Computational Linguistics and the development of Romanian research and education in the field.

ARLC brings together young researchers (PhD students, students at Bachelor and Master level), illustrious professors and senior researchers from top Romanian universities and institutes, all having a keen interest in Natural Language Processing.

ARLC vision is of a future where science is seen as a fundamental part of culture and society at large, instead of set apart from it.

The mission of ARLC (Asociaţia Română de Lingvistică Computaţională) is to promote Romanian research and education in the domain of Computational Linguistics, and to to produce knowledge that fosters a better understanding of the domain.

Also, we wish to support, grow and diversify the community of people who are interested and involved in this field, and to strengthen their influence over science’s direction and place in society.

ARLC pursues its mission by:

  • Supporting the development of the natural language processing research community in Romania, affirming and promoting this community both in the international scientific community and the Romanian society in general;
  • Sustaining and promoting research activities in artificial intelligence, and supporting the development of intelligent software;
  • Creating more partnerships to ensure that more communities, cultural institutions and public spaces are celebrating and giving people opportunities to participate in science;
  • Creating a society which is comfortable with science and excited by discovery, not just training a scientific workforce;

Members make up the General Assembly, which holds voting rights over major decisions. Some Members are elected for the Board of Directors, handling day-to-day affairs of the Association.

The Board of Directors consists of  4 members, including:

  • Three Vice Presidents – support the activities of the Board of Directors.

In our view, researchers should be encouraged and constantly supported to become involved in various forms of academic activity (participation at national and international conferences, publications, public presentations of their work, teaching activities and research projects).  On this note, we would like to emphasize that our mission is that of creating and providing a suitable institutional background to enable such activities.

These were charismatic men, each in their own way, was fascinating to observe and to engage. Anyone watching, listening or even simply reading the text of rally and stump speeches can feel the energy and sincerity of their beliefs .
